The School Girl's Song (1897)

By Aristine Anderson

The hat ! the hat ! the sailor hat !
Oh, never was equal of hat like that,
For riding, walking, school or church,
It never leaves one in the luroh.
Above the modern maiden's head,
This dainty, darling hat is spread.

The slim girls think it makes them stout ;
The stout ones wouldn't do without--
"This brim and high bows on my head
Make me look almost tall, 'tis said."
The maid with blond and fluffy hair
Knows that it makes her still more fair.

The larboard, starboard sailor hat
May be full-masted or quite flat ;
In fact from stem to stern its forms
Of trimming change ; but sun nor storms
Can ever wreck toe sailor hat,
Whatever else you owe, own that.
