Stockrider's Song(1946)

Give me a horse to ride,
And a fair day dawning ;
Give me the country wide,
On a bright spring morning.

Come mates, get out of bed,
Here's a good day spoiling;
Rake up the embers red.
Get the billy boiling.

Horses have long since stirred,
Dogs bark and fluster;
Soon now, the restless herd.
Will move to the muster.

Swift through the dusty glare,
We'll gallop and canter ;
Work done, to town we'll fare,
With laughter and banter.

Then to O'Grady's pub,
For company cheery ;
Cold beer and good hot grub,
And rest for the weary.

This is the life I love,
With freedom abounding ;
Fair open skies above,
And the hoof beats pounding.

Give me a horse to ride.
And the great plains calling ;
My good dog at my side,
And the quiet night failing.
